After installing Joomla content management system, the default editor available for editing articles is the "TinyMCE" editor. You may feel that its an editor with very limited functionalities and many of the modifications have to be done directly in HTML. The following is a screen shot of the default TinyMCE editor.
But the fact is that, you can display an extended version of TinyMCE editor with a lot of advanced functions. To do this, go to "Extensions > Plug-in Manager". In the list of plug-ins, you can see the "Editor - TinyMCE" plug-in. Click on the plug-in to view its configuration. In the Basic Options section, change the "functionality" to "Extended" from the drop down list. Save and Close the plug-in. When you come back again to the Article editor, you can see the TinyMCE editor with lot of advanced functions as below.
